The Annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is to be observed worldwide Sunday, May 20, 2012. Home Nursing Agency AIDS Intervention Project has coordinated the local service for May 20 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8th Ave. and 13th St. in Altoona, with a service at 5 p.m. and refreshments to follow. Rev. Dr. Calvin C. Edmonds will be the speaker, and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir will be performing.

The largest global grassroots AIDS event, the Candlelight Memorial is coordinated worldwide by the Global Health Council to commemorate the lives lost to AIDS, demonstrate support for people living with HIV/AIDS and mobilize community-based responses to HIV/AIDS.

The theme of this year’s International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is “Promoting Health and Dignity Together”.
