Home Nursing Agency has gratefully accepted two grants from local organizations recently in support of community-based programs: the Adult Center for Counseling and Nurse-Family Partnership.
The Central PA Community Foundation awarded $3,000 to the Agency’s Adult Center for Counseling for the “Arts in Healing” Art Therapy program. Arts in Healing allows individuals with stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses to work through triggers, symptoms and emotions more actively through art than through talk therapy. This serves as a safe outlet for emotions so that clients can express their feelings without putting themselves or others in danger.
The grant funds will be used to purchase a variety of basic art supplies and a kiln that will be used to finish clay pieces, as well as the tune-up of an existing piano for clients who choose music as their preferred medium.
Also awarded recently, Operation Our Town granted $2,500 to Nurse-Family Partnership, a program proven to prevent drug use and crime by transforming the lives of vulnerable first-time mothers and their children. By pairing a mother-to-be with a registered nurse for home visits early in the pregnancy until the child’s second birthday, the new moms receive support and guidance to break the cycle of poverty by empowering them to become confident, sensitive and competent caregivers.
The funds will be used to supplement the curriculum material with age-appropriate educational supplies for infants and toddlers such as stacking/nesting cups, blocks, rattles, balls, board books and blankets for “tummy time” to promote child success in development.
